Summary: In the 70s, we had ourselves a slightly obscure haunted house flick about how you can never be certain as to whether you're the only resident in the nice big house. Now, that plot returns with a vengeance, and the monsters no longer look like dried-up Teletubbies this time. They're smaller, but they come in droves...

History: Long ago in Providence County, Rhode Island, the Blackwood Manor saw its owner and his son taken away by an unknown force. And for a family that just moved in, their youngest daughter is in danger from whatever haunts the place. As it turns out, there are hordes of small creatures called Homunculi that live below the house, coming out at night to kidnap children for their teeth. Anyone older than that gets turned into another of them. With the light as an only defense and the little monsters drawing near, survival isn't exactly guaranteed.

Final Fate: After assaulting the kid, the Homunculi instead end up taking the eldest sibling instead as the transformed Lord Blackwood is smashed by the one they were trying to get beforehand. Later, the newly transformed older sister convinces the others to stay within the dark to wait for different people, seeing how their way in has been bolted shut.

Powers/Abilities: Can somehow turn anyone into one of their own.

Weakness: Anything conventional, but they are also incredibly sensitive to bright lights.

Scariness Factor: 4-The original Homunculi were creepy, that much is true, but these things are equal parts creepy and downright frightening. Their faces reek of bloodlust, those soulless eyes peer into the darkness, and there is such an overwhelming army of them during every assault that even the bigger humans can barely stay on top. Just imagine pack rats except they want to drag you into the darkness to either mutilate kids or turn you into a pitiful specimen.

Trivia: -As stated once before, Guillermo del Toro wrote this film due to the original having such an impact on him when he was a kid. He even voiced one of the creatures here.

-The setting is no mistake here. Providence County is where H.P. Lovecraft wrote "The Rats in the Walls", the short story that served as the inspiration for the original.
